Located in France, in the Tarentaise region, the 3 Vallées ski area has around 500 km (311 miles) of slopes, 200 ski lifts, 318 downhill ski runs and 128 km (80 miles) of cross-country ski runs. It includes several ski resorts, the most famous of which are Courchevel (Courchevel 1850, Courchevel 1650, Courchevel 1550), Méribel, Val Thorens and Les Ménuires. The ski area of Courchevel includes 105 runs, the most famous of which are Combe de la Saulire, Jean Blanc, Cospillot and Bellecôte. There are also 66 km (41 miles) of cross-country ski runs.
Courchevel has a well-established reputation for its hotel trade and luxury boutiques, as well as its gastronomic restaurants and the largest ski area in the world. The resort has many luxury hotels including at least 2 palaces and 6 restaurants listed in the Michelin Guide such as Pierre Gagnaire at Airelles, Le Chabichou and Yannick Alléno at Cheval Blanc with a total of 11 stars.
In addition to its outstanding ski area Courchevel has almost 20 miles (32 km) for snowshoe hiking, 10.5 miles (17 km) ideal for hiking, mountain bike trails, an ice-rink and an 18-hole golf course. To complement its skiing infrastructure and meet tourist demand, in 2015 the resort equipped itself with Aquamotion, a 15,000 m2 aquatic centre comprising an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, water slides, a canyon slide, plunge pool and a well-being centre, Aquawellness.
